SAD NEWS: 14 PEOPLE DIED IN A CAR ACCIDENT IN BENUE

A fatal car crash which occurred along the Makurdi / Tarka / Gboko Road in Benue State has left no less than 14 people dead.

The accident, which involved three vehicles, happened around the Wannune Market axis of the road in Tarka Local Government of the state at about 9:30 am .

According to reports,  a commuter bus, fully laden with 14 passengers, first collided with a tanker and then a car which was right behind the tanker subsequently collided with the bus also leading to a multiple accident.

The Sun reports:

An eyewitness, who simply gave his name as James, said that the 14-seater bus belonging to Pleasure Travels, was on its way to Jato- Aka in Kwande Local  Government Area when it had a head-on collision with a tanker coming from the Gboko axis and had just overtaken a car.

It was further gathered that the car, which was following the tanker at the time of the accident, collided with the bus, leading to the death of about 12 persons on the spot while two others were said to have died later.
The wounded, our source revealed, were helped by sympathizers to nearby hospitals just as the corpses of other victims were also evacuated to the morgue.

Efforts to reach the Managing Director of Pleasure Travels were not fruitful but a member of staff, who pleaded anonymity confirmed the development, adding that their staff member, a mechanic who had joined the bus to go and repair one of the vehicles that broke down on the road, also lost his life.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer for Benue State Command, DSP Daniel Ezeala confirmed that 14 people died in the auto crash.
