ANOTHER EMOTIONAL SEASON OF THE SUPERMOM IN GHANA

Digital Interactive Media Limited (DIM), a Nigerian based media outlet, at the weekend premiered a special reality show: “The Supermom” in Accra, which gave a number of local celebrities the opportunity to commemorate their mothers.

The about 20 minutes documentary, tagged: “Celebrity Edition” featured Ghallywood artistes, sports stars and other personalities, who narrated real life stories about the physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual support their mothers offered them to woo them from their wayward lifestyles into stardom.

Mr Sola Fajobi, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DIM, said the show, which was rolled out in Nigeria in 2010 was meant to celebrate mothers of all socio-economic classes for their unflinching love and uncompromising care for their children.

The high profile event hosted at Golden Tulip Hotel attracted a number of journalists, celebrities and the public.

Gbenga Adeyinga, a popular Nigerian Comedian kept the audience laughing over his anecdotes about the importance of mothers in African societies in the enforcement of discipline, provision of food and other essential needs of children.

Mr Adeyinga assisted Dr Ellen Hagan, the Vlisco Ambassador to unveil the plague of the “Supermom,” which attracted loud applause and a standing ovation from the hearty audience.

The Supermom Reality TV Show has proven to be a veritable brand building and effective brand communication and Corporate Social Responsibility Platform in Nigeria with fantastic ratings in all previous editions.

Currently in its 4th Season in Nigeria with The Heart of Gold Edition, the first two seasons were targeted at Ordinary Nigerians while The Season lll of the Show is termed the Celebrity Edition where the stories of Celebrities and their Mothers were shared with Nigerians in an emotional docu-drama format.

It instantly became a big hit making Supermom become the most watched TV Show within the quarter it ran.
The Show ran on leading TV Stations in the country and enjoyed significant attention by media ratings.

“The format will do very well just like it did in Nigeria and even more. This stems from the fact that Mothers are held in high esteem even more in Ghana.

“You can confidently say Supermom is a celebration of the African mother, a special reality show designed to celebrate mothers across Ghana,” says Mr Fajobi.

The show aims at celebrating extra ordinary mothers with extra ordinary stories.

“Stories about sacrifices, stories of unconditional love, stories of hope, stories about believing above all odds, about never giving up regardless of the problems. Mothers who held the fort. Mothers who controlled the sails of their ships when the storm struck. Mothers who chose to love a child when the entire world offered hate. Mothers who never stopped praying because they believe the night was only for a moment”.

“Our Superstars are human beings, they eat, they drink and do all the things that we do and they did not fall from the sky. They were raised, groomed, trained and nurtured by mothers; they were kids once before and now they are celebrated by Ghanaians because of their talent, skills or achievements,” the DIM CEO noted.

He said 20 Celebrities will share emotional experiences of why their Mother is the best, a special interview will be conducted for the mothers while professional movie stars will re-enact the stories in a very emotional dramaIn each Episode, two Celebrity Mothers will be paired and viewers would vote for their choice mom.

At the end of the show, the top three winners will win special prizes and part of their winnings will be donated to Motherless Babies’ and Homes of their choice. The show will also carry Special interviews of the Celebrities sharing the stories of their moms’ sacrifices.

The celebrities will be recorded in the studio creating music and telling us how their mothers ensured they got educated despite peer pressure and challenges and how their mothers equally served as backbones in developing their music career.

The show will visit Mothers in their local environments and record everything about their lifestyles for the documentary. Celebrity moms will also share the story of their Celebrity Children from birth to adulthood, telling every challenge, struggle and sacrifice made and the emotions involved.

In addition, details of Celebrities’ Childhood, the discovery of talent, nurturing and rise to stardom, the nuances of their life and work as well as other interesting things not known to Ghanaians be scripted together with the touching elements and defining moments of the narrations made by mother and child.

The script will be re-enacted for the documentary by professional Ghanaian Actors and Actresses.

The show will be broadcast across Ghana on major TV Stations once weekly for 13 weeks. One hour per episode.
