GULDER ULTIMATE SEARCH 10 EPISODE 4
The roles of the two Gatekeepers – Ezugo Egwuagwu and Dominic Mudabai – were unveiled. They were to motivate and guide Contestants to win as many tasks as possible. The Gatekeepers each tossed a coin to choose the tribes they would mentor.
Ezugo picked the Spear Tribe which had lost their game the previous day. He reasoned that he could make winners out of them. Dominic went for Swords Tribe which he had described as the winning team.
The Spears however won Episode four’s challenge against the Swords Tribe after losing the day’s earlier task. The challenge was ‘Get the Food’. It entailed gathering puzzles and solving them. Four members of each tribe were to gather the puzzle (Gatherers) while the remaining two were to solve them (Solvers).
The Gatherers were to crawl underneath an obstacle, go up a palm tree and pluck down a sack containing the puzzles. They were then to crawl beneath the obstacle and deliver the puzzle sack on the table where the Solvers were waiting. There were four sacks, meaning that the four Gatherers on both sides were to pluck one sack each.
Anthony and Dennis were Solvers for the Spears Tribe while Edmond and Kunle were the Solvers for the Swords Tribe. At the outset of the challenge the Spears tribe suffered a setback after Peter’s round, owing to Martha’s inability to climb the tree and Ema’s fall from the tree. They however overcame the setback and the presence of their guardian Gatekeeper bolstered their confidence. Their reward was steaming hot Sharwarma and bananas: a welcome meal which assuaged their hunger.

The
task entailed ferrying orange juice in a leaf across obstacle courses
and pouring the content in a transparent jar. Each tribe member had to
pick an orange from a basket, squeeze the juice into a cone-shaped fresh
leaf and journey across a beam and a web of sticks; to empty the leaf’s
content into the jar. The tribe with more volume of orange juice at the
end of 30 minutes emerged the winner.
Ifunanya
and Olukunle took the first turns for their respective tribes. They
were followed by Dennis and Halima; while Peter and Edmond took the next
turn. Mary was pitched against her identical twin Martha; and the
former outsmarted the latter. Ema’s was a complete disaster as her
performance sealed the Spears defeat. The Swords had 2.3cl of orange
juice while the Spears jar contained 2cl.
For
winning the contest, the Swords were rewarded with the remains of the
two baskets of oranges. For being the weakest link in the team Ema was
to learn balance by standing by the camp flag with her hands on the pole
till sunset.
UPDATES ON DANCING WITH THE STARS
Dancing with the Stars eliminated
Valerie Harper and her professional partner Tristan MacManus during
Monday night's live seventeenth-season broadcast on ABC.
The
actress and MacManus became the third couple eliminated from the
competition based on the combination of the Dancing with the Stars
judges' scores they had received during last night's performance show
and the home viewer votes that were cast following last Monday night's
episode.
"[The
show] has been absolutely wonderful -- completely unique, like nothing
else in the world that you would ever do. And it was an opportunity for
me to carry a message to folks -- not just with cancer or whatever they
have -- that whatever challenge, like our song tonight 'Keep On Keeping
On,' you know?!" Harper said following her ouster.
"It's
been great. What a great group of people. I love you [Tom Bergeron],
and the judges are fair and they're consistent and they watch and I
respect what they do, and the audience out there. It's really a great
thing to get up and dance!"
"It's very difficult [to explain]," MacManus said when asked how to describe his connection with Harper.
"Sometimes
you get very lucky to do well [with] your partner, sometimes you get
very lucky in your life to meet someone who can affect them more than
this could at all. And I feel like I've been very lucky to get that, and
I feel like maybe me life's a little bit better since I met Valerie
Harper."
Harper
and MacManus finished in tenth -- and last -- place on Monday night's
leaderboard after they earned only 18 out of 30 possible points from
Dancing with the Stars judges Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli as well
as guest judge Julianne Hough, who previously competed as a pro on the
show, for their Viennese waltz.
Actor
and Pretty Little Liars star Brant Daugherty and partner Peta
Murgatroyd were the other couple still in danger of elimination prior to
Harper and MacManus' ouster, although Dancing with the Stars co-host
Brooke Burke-Charvet revealed Daugherty and Murgatroyd weren't
necessarily one of the bottom-two couples based on the combination of
the judges' scores and America's vote.
Daugherty
and Murgatroyd tied for eighth place on the judges' leaderboard with
comedian Bill Engvall and partner Emma Slater after both couples
received 21 points from the judges for their routines. Daugherty and
Murgatroyd danced the salsa, while Engvall and Slater performed the
samba.
First
place on Monday night's leaderboard happened to be a three-way tie
amongst the celebrities who earned 27 points: Actress and former Step It
Up and Dance host Elizabeth Berkley, actress and Glee star Amber Riley,
and Disney Channel star Corbin Bleu.
Berkley
and partner Val Chmerkovskiy took the stage with an Argentine tango,
Riley and partner Derek Hough performed the tango, and Bleu and partner
Karina Smirnoff danced a paso doble routine.
Fourth
place represented a tie amongst the following four celebrities: Singer
and former The Voice social media correspondent Christina Milian, Jersey
Shore and Snooki & Jwoww star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, actress and
former The Talk co-host Leah Remini, and former The Osbournes and Armed
& Famous star Jack Osbourne.
All
the couples earned 24 points from the judges for their routines last
night. Osbourne and partner Cheryl Burke danced the quickstep, Remini
and partner Tony Dovolani performed the cha cha, Polizzi and partner
Sasha Farber took the stage with the jive, and Milian and partner Mark
Ballas danced the foxtrot.
The
nine remaining seventeenth-season Dancing with the Stars couples will
return for another two-hour performance show on Monday, October 14,
during which the night's scores from the judges and the home viewer
voting results cast following last night's show will be combined and one
more couple will be eliminated.

THE AMAZING RACE
The "Theater Performers" became the second team eliminated from the around-the-world competition after they arrived at the Race's second Pit Stop at the Cascada De Las Animas, a natural paradise in the Andes mountains in Santiago, Chile in last place.
"We
took a chance and it's like I always said, 'You can't have great
success without great failure," Shane said following his team's ouster.
"I
think after 27 years, I finally learned to appreciate Shane more. I
always appreciated our friendship, but I appreciate him even more,"
Rowan added.
The
second episode of The Amazing Race's 23rd edition began with the Race's
10 remaining teams leaving the first Pit Stop at the Teatro Municipal
De Iquique in Iquique, Chile.
"Exes"
Timothy Sweeney and Marie "Reebs" Mazzocchi departed the first Pit Stop
in first place at 2:52AM. Following Timothy and Marie were "Married ER
Doctors" Nicole Jasper and Travis Jasper at 3:02AM, Rowan and Shane at
3:03AM, "Former NFL Teammates" Chester Pitts II and Ephraim Salaam at
3:13AM, "Baseball Wives" Nicole "Nicky" Getz and Kim DeJesus at 3:14AM,
and "LA Kings Ice Crew Girls" Allison "Ally" Mello and Ashley Covert at
3:20AM.
Following
Ally and Ashley were "Cousins" Leo Temory and Jamal Zadran at
4:00AM, "Dating Couple" Jason Case and Amy Diaz at 5:17AM, "Best
Friends" Tim Wiyninger and Daniel "Danny" Merkey at 5:28AM and finally
"Childhood Friends and Beard Lovers" Brandon Squyres and Adam Switzer at
5:34AM.
The
teams' first set of clues instructed them to make their way to the deck
of the Museo Corbeta Esmeralda where an officer would hand them their
next clue.
The
ship did not open for tourism until 7:15AM, so all the teams eventually
gathered and had to wait for the leg to begin. Once the museum opened,
everyone was given a puzzle to solve. They had to figure out the phrase,
"Charge the ship, men," in Spanish and recite it.
Brandon
and Adam figured out the phrase first and Ally and Ashley followed
closely behind them in second place. The order of which all the other
teams discovered the correct Spanish phrase was not shown.
The teams then learned they must make their way to the Irlanda Salt Mines and find Irlanda 3 roadside.
Brandon
and Adam were the first team to arrive and receive the Race's first
Detour clue. They were soon followed by Ally and Ashley, Leo and Jamal,
Nicole and Travis, Chester and Ephraim, Jason and Amy, Timothy and
Marie, Nicky and Kim, Tim and Danny, and finally Rowan and Shane, who
seemingly got lost on the way.
For the Detour, the teams had to ride bikes to the salt mine and choose one of two possible tasks: "Mining" or "Brining."
"Brining"
required the Racers to add enough salt to a pool of wood until they
could both comfortably float and read the local newspaper.
Jason and Amy, Nicole and Travis, Timothy and Marie, Nicky and Kim, and Tim and Danny opted to take on the "Brining" task.
"Mining" required the Racers to break open boulders of salt until they found one with a clue inside.
Brandon and Adam, Ally and Ashley, Leo and Jamal, Chester and Ephraim, and Rowan and Shane chose to do the "Mining" task.
However, after attempting the mining task for a little while, Ally and Ashley decided to switch tasks to the less-physical one.
Brandon
and Adam were the first team to complete the Detour task. They were
then followed by Leo and Jamal, Chester and Ephraim, Jason and Amy,
Nicole and Travis, Timothy and Marie, Ally and Ashley, Tim and Danny,
Rowan and Shane, and finally Nicky and Kim.
The
teams' next set of clues instructed them to travel back to Iquique and
then take a 1,000-mile, 24-hour bus ride to the capital of Chile, which
is Santiago. Once there, they must make their way to Plaza de Armas,
where they'd find their next clue.
Jason
and Amy, Nicole and Travis, Brandon and Adam, Chester and Ephraim, and
Leo and Jamal all got on the first bus leaving at 1:30PM to Santiago. A
second bus departed a half-hour later at 2PM. Timothy and Marie, Ally
and Ashley, Tim and Danny, and Nicky and Kim got on the second bus,
which was scheduled to arrive in Santiago at 6PM.
Rowan
and Shane were originally going to get on the second bus, but the
people at the ticket counter mentioned a 4PM bus into Santiago. Rowan
and Shane misunderstood what was said, as they thought a bus arrived in
Santiago at 4PM, which would be two hours earlier than the second bus.
However,
the guys soon learned -- after they had already missed the second bus
-- that the third bus they had to wait for departed Iquique at 4PM and
didn't arrive in Santiago until 10PM. They assumed right then and there
they were finished in the Race.
But
Rowan and Shane discovered an alternative and better option. They
booked tickets for a bus that would leave in about an hour from that
point and arrive in Santiago about 7-8PM.
The first and earliest bus arrived in Santiago at 1:49PM the next day.
Jason
and Amy were the first team to arrive at the next clue, which required
one member from each team to complete a Roadblock task, and they were
soon followed by Chester and Ephraim, Brandon and Adam, Leo and Jamal,
and Nicole and Travis.
For
the Roadblock, the Racers had to play the role of a shoeshiner. They
had to find a marked shoeshine stand to polish the shoes of a waiting
customer and then figure out the puzzle of how to put together a
complicated stand. Afterward, they had to push the stand -- holding all
their belongings from the shoeshining task -- six blocks to a storage
area, where they'd receive their next clue.
Amy, Chester, Adam, Leo, and Nicole all opted to try the Roadblock on behalf of their teams.
Chester
and Ephraim ended up finishing the Roadblock task before any of the
other teams. They were then followed by Leo and Jamal, Brandon and Adam,
Nicole and Travis, and Jason and Amy.
The teams then had to make their way to the Cascada De Las Animas, which would serve as the Race's second Pit Stop.
Leo
and Jamal were the first team to arrive at the Pit Stop location and
meet up with The Amazing Race host Phil Keoghan. However, Phil told them
they could not officially check-in until they settled their cab bill
and paid their driver.
Chester
and Ephraim then made it to the Pit Stop mat and were able to claim
first place since Leo and Jamal had yet to return from their cab. For
coming in first place, Chester and Ephraim won a trip for two to Turks
and Caicos.
As
a result, Leo and Jamal finished the leg in second place. They were
then followed by Brandon and Adam in third, Nicole and Travis in fourth,
and Jason and Amy in fifth place.
While
on the second bus, Nicky and Kim learned Timothy had once played
baseball with Kim's husband David DeJesus in the minors. At that moment,
the teams formed an alliance and Marie suggested giving the girls their
extra Express Pass, which they had won -- in addition to an Express
Pass of their own -- for finishing the first leg in first place.
Marie
said she'd give the Express Pass to them as long as another team didn't
save their lives, which she admitted probably wouldn't happen because
all the other teams seemed to hate them. Timothy and Marie thought they
could trust Kim and Nicky but also beat them.
The
second bus then arrived at 6:44PM in Santiago. Tim and Danny
subsequently arrived at the Roadblock clue in sixth place, and they were
then followed by Timothy and Marie, Nicky and Kim, and finally Ally and
Ashley. Rowan and Shane's bus arrived shortly afterwards at 7:03PM. The
short time gap allowed Rowan and Shane to catch up to the rest of the
teams.
Marie, Ashley, Nicky, Danny, and Rowan all decided to do the Roadblock task instead of their partners.
Ally
and Ashley finished the task before the other teams still there. Tim
and Danny did the job next, and they were soon followed by Timothy and
Marie.
Nicky
and Kim then thought they had completed the task, but Nicky forgot the
rug she used and had to go back for it. Marie, who was still there,
refused to give Nicky her Express Pass in that moment. Marie didn't see
how she and Timothy would benefit from giving up their Express Pass
based on the circumstances. Once back at the location where she shined
someone's shoes, Nicky couldn't find the rug.
Meanwhile,
Rowan misunderstood the clue and walked up to a local shoeshiner who
wasn't part the Roadblock and didn't speak English. Despite the language
barrier, Rowan managed to convince the shoeshiner to let him finish
shining the shoes of his customer and then pack up his equipment and
transport it to the storage area (with the shoeshiner also in tow). Once
there, Rowan finally realized he had done the Roadblock wrong and
needed to go back to the very beginning, locate a marked shoeshine
stand, and re-do the task.
Tim
and Danny then arrived at the Pit Stop mat in sixth place. Following
them were Ally and Ashley in seventh place, Timothy and Marie in eighth,
and Nicky and Kim -- who had completed the Roadblock task before Rowan
and Shane -- in ninth place.
Phil then greeted Rowan and Shane, who had finished the leg in tenth -- and last -- place, and the guys were eliminated.

GUS 10 EPISODE 3
The Council
of Elders broke several age-long traditions of GUS. Broken rule number
one: contestants had to perform a task instead of first seeking their
jungle place of abode and erecting their shelter. Broken rule number
two: contestants had to form two tribes each and stay in different
camps – Red camp and Yellow camp. One Tribe would be known as The Swords and the other The Spears.
To know which tribe each contestant belonged to, the Warriors had to ‘Dig For Tribes’. Twelve boxes were buried underneath a swampy field and each contestant had to dig up a box which contained either a yellow or red object. This they did with their bare hands. Those whose boxes contained red objects belonged to the Spears and would stay in the Red camp while those with yellow objects belonged to the Swords camp. All dug up their boxes except Martha who gave up.
The members of the Swords are: Edmond Umebuani, Ezidi Bobby Nzube, Sheidu Onozare Halima, Chapele Tracy, Salako Oladimeji Olukunle and Mary Adeboye. The Spears consist of: Okike Dennis, Brosu Anthony, Ifunanya Onike Michelle, Ijeh Peter Oseleka, Etido Ema Ebong and Martha Adeboye
Edmond was chosen as the leader of Swords Tribe while Anthony became the leader of Spears Tribe. The contestants were informed there was a five-star accommodation which they had to battle over, playing ‘Mudby’ made popular in Season 9. The losing team would camp in the ‘slum’ while the winning team would abode in a camp of luxury.
Determined to occupy the choice estate, Dennis put the Spears Tribe ahead with their first goal while Anthony scored the team’s second goal. Bobby scored the Swords Tribe first goal while Edmond scored the second, levelling the score line.
Seconds into the second half Peter scored for the Spears while Bobby’s goal for the Swords ensured that both sides were even. Just when the game was about to end in a tie, Dennis fouled Edmond and earned a penalty against his team. Edmond scored the penalty to put the Swords Tribe ahead of the Spears. At full-time, the Swords Tribe won the game and the right to reside in the jungle’s five-star estate.
The Swords wereamazed to discover their luxurious abode had no jot of luxury; except a nearby stream, where they could have easy access to water. Both tribes had to build their shelters late into the night.
Martha had to wash the mud-soaked clothes of all the contestants as punishment for not completing the first task

Of the over 40,000 contestants that applied for Gulder Ultimate Search
10, only 30 contestants were invited to the final selection process.
They had to undergo a battery of mind games and psychological tests to
ascertain that they were physically and mentally capable of withstanding
the obstacles and rigours of the Usaka jungle.
It dawned on the contestants that the saying, “Gulder Ultimate Search
will stretch man beyond the limits of his existence”, was no mere fad.
By the end of the final selection process, 18 hearts had been broken.
The GUS journey for the unlucky contestants ended, while the final 12
heaved temporary sighs of relief after being chosen among the Gulder
Ultimate Search 10 ‘Order of Heroes’.
The jungle bound warriors are: Umeabuni Edmond, a 27 year old medical
doctor from Enugu State; 21 year old Etido Emma Ebong from Akwa Ibom
State; 29 year old Dennis Okike from Abia State; 29 year old Brosu
Anthony from Delta State; 21 year old Onike Ifunaya, from Anambara
State; 28 year old Halima Sheidu from Kogi State; 24 year old Salako
Olukunle from Oyo State born and 27 year old Peter Ijeh from Delta
State.
Others are 23 year old Ezidi Nzube Anambra State, 25 year old Tracy
Chapele from Delta State and Martha and Martha Adeboye, Gulder Ultimate
Search’s first set of identical twin contestants, aged 21.
Ezugo Egwuagu and Dominic Mudabai, winners of GUS 1 and 4 respectively, were introduced as Gatekeepers.
The contestants were also hosted by Barr. Godswill Akpabio, executive
governor of Akwa Ibom State. He congratulated the contestants on their
emergence and thanked Nigerian Breweries Plc for staging Gulder Ultimate
Search 10 in the Usaka jungle of Akwa Ibom State. As he bade the
contestants’ farewell, he wished them a wonderful stay in the state.
